Get Involved with Class Gifts

Each year, loyal alumni volunteer to be part of their class volunteer structure, serving as either a class chair, co-chair or volunteer. Each volunteer is responsible for contacting a set of classmates (of their choice) to encourage giving to the Sewanee Annual Fund. Class chairs work with SAF staff to set class dollar and participation goals each year. Be a force in your reunion‌

Sewanee has an every-five-year reunion giving program that builds off of the every-year Sewanee Annual Fund class volunteer system. Each year, 10 classes are in active reunion mode. The 5th – 45th reunion classes work to increase support and participation in the Sewanee Annual Fund in the fiscal year before their reunion weekend. So, if a class is celebrating its reunion in the fall of 2017, for example, their reunion giving period is July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2017. When a reunion class arrives on campus to celebrate their reunion, they will also be celebrating a completed (the prior June 30) reunion gift campaign.

To see current reunion year goals and progress and all-time reunion records, visit http://annualfund.sewanee.edu/alumni/reunion-giving/.

For the milestone 50th reunion year, a committee of classmates works together over a period of several years to build a comprehensive class gift to the University which includes:

  • Gifts and pledges to the Sewanee Annual Fund
  • Commitments to a class project (endowment, building, etc.),
  • Planned gifts.

Through this work, 50th reunion classes create their legacy gift to their alma mater.Alumni in parade

Foster Student Success after College

Sewanee has a well-staffed and resourced office to help students prepare for life after college. Counselors help students with the job search, setting up internships, skills assessment, and many other areas. Volunteers are encouraged to help with that work by

  • Responding to students' emails and requests to meet when they reach out (keeping your information up-to-date with Sewanee and on LinkedIn, if applicable, helps this process immensely!)
  • Forwarding internship and job openings to Career and Leadership Development
  • Participating in networking events such as the Student-Alumni Networking Lunch at Homecoming
