Enhancing Sewanee's Athletic Facilities
Sewanee has ambitious plans to upgrade the two top athletic performance facilities at McGee and Puett fields with synthetic turf grass at both sites as well as lighting McGee Field for night games. These upgraded facilities will be of enormous benefit to the whole campus, but particularly to the young men and women playing varsity football, men’s and women’s lacrosse, field hockey, and men’s and women’s soccer. Some of these sports teams will be able, for the first time, to perform regularly in premier exhibition space because of the projects. All of them will benefit from playing on a safer surface that is durable enough to allow for camps and tournaments and all the kinds of activity that dramatically improve a sports program over time. The positive impact of turf fields on individual student-athletes and the entire athletic program cannot be overstated.
We have a significant lead gift that encourages us to believe we can raise the $500,000 remaining necessary to complete the project by the fall of 2013. The goal is ambitious but achievable if enough parents, alumni, and other friends join in the effort. Every gift, no matter the size, will help build a community of people devoted to excellence and create a winning team.
This is an exciting time in Sewanee athletics - made even more special by our two recent lacrosse championships and bids to the NCAA tournament.
