Reunion Giving
Beginning mid-to-late summer each year, reunion class volunteers are busy calling, emailing and facebooking classmates to encourage reunion attendance and support for class reunion gifts. During homecoming weekend, this year November 3-6, the volunteers see, first hand, some concrete results of their good work. At the weekend class parties, they see, often for the first time in years, those they have contacted to "come back to the Mountain". In addition, they can take pride in the progress made towards their reunion class gift goals when totals to date are announced at the annual Alumni Awards Breakfast on Saturday. "Reunion giving represents an important part of the Sewanee Annual Fund," said Haynes Roberts C'2000, Director of Annual Giving, "and Homecoming provides us with a great opportunity to have a critical mass from the reunion classes together." All reunion class efforts are coordinated by terrific class chairs who lead a group of dedicated alumni class volunteers to encourage reunion attendance and support for the reunion class gifts.
While the Reunion campaigns continue until June 30, 2012, class members have already made or pledged $384,408 toward their goals. The Fiftieth Reunion Class has a 3-part goal: gifts to the Sewanee Annual Fund, a capital project--naming the dining room in a new Sewanee Inn--and planned or estate gifts.
